The power of partnerships was in fine
form at the first TAMIU Eagle Ford Shale
Stakeholders Summit this October.
While the Eagle Ford Shale has generated
remarkable economic impact on our region,
the Summit looked at how leaders could
better maximize those resources through
regional partnerships.
State Senator Judith Zaffirini, who thought
TAMIU was the ideal host site as the largest
regional university in the Eagle Ford Shale
area, first offered the Summit idea.
It was attended by over 350 participants
including legislative team members Sen.
Zaffirini, State Representatives Ryan Guillen,
Richard Peña Raymond and Tracy O. King.
Also present were local and regional leaders,
field experts and community members
including educators, business people and
industry representatives.
Panelists lead discussions focused on
infrastructure and transportation, a healthy
workforce and healthy industry, economic
and education impacts, engineering and
technology for the future and the perspectives
of regional leaders and members of the
Legislature.
The Summit is already being credited with
helping TAMIU to accelerate its development
of a Petroleum Engineering degree, with half
of the needed private monies to bring the
degree forward already secured.
Event sponsors included America’s Natural
Gas Alliance (ANGA), AEP Texas, CenterPoint
Energy, Eagle Ford Consortium, Lewis Energy
Group, and the County of Webb.
